Dyed tint
Dyed film is the cheapest option. It blocks some light and adds privacy, but it does little to reject heat and tends to fade to purple over time. It’s the “discount special” look you want to avoid.
Metallic tint
Metallic film rejects more heat than dyed film thanks to tiny metal particles, but those same particles can interfere with cell signal, GPS, radar, and Tesla key cards. It also has a mirror-like sheen some drivers dislike.
Ceramic tint
Ceramic film, like XPEL PRIME XR and XR Plus, uses nano-ceramic particles to reject up to 60% of total solar heat and 99% of UV, with no metal, so it never blocks signal. It stays optically clear, never turns purple, and lasts the life of the car.
The bottom line
For LA heat and modern, sensor-heavy cars, ceramic is the clear winner. It costs more up front but delivers better comfort, no signal issues, and a finish that won’t fade. Every Monarch tint install uses XPEL ceramic film backed by a lifetime warranty.
